These sound good, but my wife is allergic to peanuts. What is a good substitute ?
Jason
Will ask on the new show this weekend! Great question….
ok these sound great and i want to make them, but as im english im a bit confused, how do u get cups of butter and cups of peanut butter??

I’m think soy butter would work as a substitute for peanut butter, but I’m not sure how it will affect the taste. I teach at a no-peanut school and we have soy butter and jelly sandwiches all the time.

Made a batch of these and my kids and I loved them! They were gone very fast!
Just have a few questions/comments about these.
First of all, when mixing in the chocolate chips, I could not get the chips to adequately stick to the rest of the cookie mixture. What I ended up with were a lot of chips in the bottom of the mixing bowl at the end.
Also, I found that it takes more like 15 minutes at 350 to keep these from just falling apart.
And finally, it should be noted that you want to work with the peanut butter for as little time as possible. Meaning, try to keep your mixing time to a minimum. The more you beat peanut butter, the more stiff it will get, and you’ll end up with some tough cookies!
I good recipe though, they are quite tasty. I’m taking two plates into work tomorrow (I made smaller cookies (normal) so that I would have lots to spread around)
Heard you referencing my comment about soy butter and that you had never heard of a no-peanut school. Just FYI, we are a no-peanut school due to having a student who is VERY allergic to any form of tree nuts and will go into arrest if exposed. So no nuts allowed in the school. We have to check lunches every day because even though the parents know they can’t send nuts, we still find food items (especially pre-packaged) with nuts. The best was when a kid showed up with a PBJ.
Anyways, I love your show and enjoy the recipes. I gave the Wookies recipe to the parent of the student who is allergic to try it with soy butter. I’ll let you know how they turn out.
It sounds like a lot of preschools are going nut-free these days, due to increased nut allergies and the fact that preschoolers tend to stick their fingers in everybody’s lunches. My daughter’s school was peanut-free, and one of her favorite lunches is PBJ. When she started going full days, we thought we would experiment with other nut butters, and tried cashew butter. Once you detach yourself from what is actually happening, it is really interesting to see just how fast someone’s face can turn red and start to swell up from an allergic reaction…. Needless to say, her school is now nut free.
We have a recipe we are very fond of which is very similar to your Wookie recipe, but it adds grated chocolate and dried fruit, usually cranberries or apricots. My husband swears by them for long bike trips!

Bush is forever saying that democracies do not invade other countries and start wars. Well, he did just that. He invaded Iraq, started a war, and killed people. What do you think? Is killing thousands of innocent civilians okay when you are doing a little government makeover?
What happened to us, people? When did we become such lemmings?
The more people that the government puts in jails, the safer we are told to think we are. The real terrorists are wherever they are, but they aren’t living in a country with bars on the windows. We are.
